ABADDON Abaddon is derived from lettering by Alphons Mucha for a classic bicycle poster. It has been somewhat modified and regularized from the rather small source sample. It has become one of our most popular fonts, featured on at least a dozen video games, in several movies, on book titles, and of course as the signature font for the band Incubus. ALECTO For our mdern/futuristic fonts collection we wanted something truly science fictional, so Dave Nalle designed the Alecto font, an original design with a futuristic look, but some echoes of the type designs and lettering of the Arts & Crafts period. It looks much more modern, but you can see echoes of some of our other fonts like Semiramis in the design. Alecto features multiple versions of many of the characters to make it ideal for designing logos and titles.

ALLEGHIERI Alleghieri was developed from several different examples of late Renaissance lettering. While it is based on a style which is clearly intended for quick, easy writing, we've preserved many of the unusual character forms and elaborations to give it a lot of personality. The result is stylish and unique, with a real feel of the Renaissance, but great readability as well. The full version includes a large selection of variant character forms and special characters. ALLENCON Allencon is a lovely new font based on freehand calligraphy. BUTTERFIELD Butterfield is based on poster lettering from posters for rock shows at the Fillmore in the 1960s. It is particularly influenced by the lettering of Wes Wilson, but has added features and improvements to make it more generally useful. CAESARIO TCaesario is Mike Scarpitti's newest font, based on the famous inscriptory lettering on the Trajan column in Rome. After searching through many sources, he turned to the drawings of the original column lettering made by Frederic Goudy in 1936. The superior quality of these drawings combined with the Mike's faithful reproduction of the characters forms make Caesario the best available representation of the style of this famous incription.

CARMILLA TCarmilla is a wicked looking script font which we developed with Halloween in mind. The concept was to create a font which would look the way that the vampiress Carmilla (from Le Fanu's classic story of the same name) would write - sort of evil, sort of French - rather like letters written in blood, but not necessarily dripping. The result is quite effective, though perhaps not as scary as we would have wanted. There are a huge number of variant and special characters in this font.

CASWALLON Our recent polling discovered a lot of interest in more antique script fonts, so we felt obliged to provide one. Caswallon is loosely based on samples of 17th century text script. It features a decorative upper case character set with clean, basic lower case letters plus some bonus decorative ornaments to add flair to any design. Caswallon goes very well with antique text styles, particularly Caslon and Jenson derivatives, including our True Golden and Treglonou fonts.

DELAGUERRA Delaguerra is based on a lettering style originating in the California Arts & Crafts period commonly associated with 'Mission Style'. It is still in common usage in signage at historical sites in California. This version is a sort of idealized hybrid of several different variations on the style from samples we were sent by a customer who wanted to use the font in a set of invitations. It features a basic character set on the lower case and then relief initial versions of the same characters for the upper case.

To get the font we wanted we started by developing a source font for the basic letter shapes and we ended up with a whole bunch of variations of the basic style. Thus was born the new Ducatus family of fonts, starting with Ducatus Light which developed into the Medium and Heavy versions, and the Medium weight was ultimately used as the basis for the Ducatus Rough font, which was the goal of the project in the first place. Ducatus Rough was created by modifying Ducatus Medium in Photoshop using Gallery Effects and several other filter packages, and then redoing the outlines from scratch in Fontographer. A lot of work, but the result is just what we wanted. Ducatus Rough is the new featured font.

To get the font we wanted we started by developing a source font for the basic letter shapes and we ended up with a whole bunch of variations of the basic style. Thus was born the new Ducatus family of fonts, starting with Ducatus Light which developed into the Medium and Heavy versions, and the Medium weight was ultimately used as the basis for the Ducatus Rough font, which was the goal of the project in the first place. Ducatus Rough was created by modifying Ducatus Medium in Photoshop using Gallery Effects and several other filter packages, and then redoing the outlines from scratch in Fontographer. A lot of work, but the result is just what we wanted. Ducatus Rough is the new featured font.

EARTHPIG Earthpig is based on samples of poster lettering from classic club posters of the 1960s, from venues like the Fillmore in San Francisco and the Armadillo in Austin. It combines elements of several different styles to recreate the unique look of poster lettering of the psychedelic era.

GAHERIS Gaheris is a decorative font in the same tradition as our Goddard and Ganelon fonts, but with a somewhat more calligraphic look. It is suitable for use as a text or title font, but has some characteristics of a script font, which gives it an unusual and appealing appearance. GODDARD Goddard is based on some very unsual lettering by Art Nouveau period calligrapher Samuel Welo. HENDRIX I had a chat recently with a customer who is a big fan of lettering from the psychedelic poster era - the kind of lettering we've made into fonts in our Psychedelic Fonts collection. The discussion got me thinking about poster lettering we hadn't yet made into fonts, and a particular sample from a Jimi Hendrix poster I had played around with but never finished making into a font. So I went back to the drawing board and the result is the new Hendrix font. Unlike many of our other Psychedelic fonts which are stripped down to their basic character forms, this font includes the outlines characteristic of a lot of poster lettering from that period. It also includes variant versions of a number of the characters, though these are not included in the demo version.

HESPERIDES Hesperides is based on samples of Colonial period calligraphy. Rather than being directly derived from any one sample, some common characteristics have been emphasized to give it a more coherent and distinctive look, with the accentuated single-looped strokes on many of the characters suggesting a fully flourished style, but showing a bit of restraint. The ultimate effect is really striking, in the tradition of our Queensland and Allegheny fonts, but even more distinctive. The full version includes alternate versions of many of the key characters designed to reduce loop interference and add variety.

HUBBARD Hubbard is based on hadn lettering from the Roycroft Arts and Crafts movement of turn-of-the-century New York. The Roycrofters were heavily influenced by the design concepts of William Morris and Charles Rennie MacKintosh. The font takes its name from Elbert Hubbard, leader of the Roycroft movement.

HYACINTH Hyacinth is an ornate, decorative and rather attractive font based on the lettering of Alphonse Mucha for his poster for the play Princess Hyacinth. It's more elaborate and floral in style than most of Mucha's designs, but very pretty.

INTERLUDE Interlude originated with some title lettering which we found in an Austrian theatre program from the early 1900s. With some more research we found a similar style called Tradition which was designed by Bernard Naudin and produced by a Parisian type house during the period before World War I. Using those two sources we ultimately produced two variant versions of the font, combining elements of the two sources. Interlude features characters with open areas in the heavier strokes, while Prelude is a solid, more script-like version of the style.

ISFAHAN Isfahan is based on the middle-eastern style decorative initials Willy Pogany drew for his edition of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayaam. This font has both full-size capitals and reduced size small-caps versions of each letter, but although it could be used as a titling font, it is really intended more for decorative character placement.

ITHURIEL IIthuriel is based on an art nouveau period font. It is in the style of a script font, but with letters which don't connect together, to produce a clearer, cleaner more readable effect. It's the kind of font you might have found on menus, hotel lobby cards or perhaps theatre programs in the early 1900s.

JERASH Jerash was developed jointly by Dave Nalle and Mike Scarpitti. It draws on the look of several classic fonts from the 1920s and 30s which evoked the look of Middle-Eastern calligraphy. MELCHEBURN Melcheburn is a classic late-medieval gothic font based on original lettering by Samuel Welo. It has strong, formal lower case letters and extremely ornate and decorative capitals.

MELUSINE Melusine is based on an ornate style of gothic calligraphy used primarily in decorative signs and advertising in Germany around the turn of the century. It has many of the characteristics of a true medieval gothic hand, but is a more elaborate, extreme variaton on the style.

ORLOCK Orlock is a new font developed by Michael Scarpitti from a sample of hand lettering on the poster of the classic silent film Nosferatu. It is a bit different from the types of fonts Mike has done for us previously. The style of the letters is characteristic of graphic design of the German Expressionist movement of the 1920s. The name of the character is borrowed from theVampire villain of the film.

ORPHIEL Orphiel from a sample of Edwardian period hand lettering, mainly because we wanted to offer an alternative to our Belphebe font for invitations, menus and wedding announcements. It's an elegant font, with nice variations in weight and capital letters which are quite ornate. Orphiel is probably the last new script font we'll do for a while. The amount of work which goes into properly kerning a script font and making sure that the letters connect and flow properly, is just phenomenal. Orphiel demanded even more attention than most, and our collection of script fonts is now pretty much unrivalled.

Paleos features many different versions of almost every character so you can give it the natural variety of lettering hand-carved by a troglodyte. PERDIDO Perdido is a classic western-style font, with the added twist of the addition of a degenerated wood grain, so that the characters naturally look like aged and cracking wood. With the addition of an appropriate texture it's very convincing.

PERIGORD TPerigord has mixed origins. It was inspired by Guttenberg's capitals and by lettering developed by German designer Ernst Bentele, but its calligraphic antecedents go back to French initials of the Carolingian period. The result of this is a formal, attractive and antique look which we hope you'll like. The full version includes alternate forms for many of the letters, as well as numbers and punctuation.

PLAKAT Plakat is based on lettering by 1920s advertising calligrapher Samuel Welo. It is a complete upper and lower case set with a number of alternate characters, all with a rough, decorative look accented by curls and hooks. If you like the look of our popular Scurlock font, Plakat has a similar aesthetic, though it is even bolder.

PLATTHAND Platthand is based on the style of hand lettering used by 16th and 17th century mapmakers for decorative titles, particularly on nautical maps. The style uses extraordinarily ornate capital letters with elaborate, extreme flourishes. Our main sources for this design are maps by Abraham Ortelius, Jan Huygen and other Dutch cartographers.

PLOWRIGHT Plowright is a new font based on hand lettering from the 1880s. It's a great example of the style we often associate with signmaking in the old west, with a lot of quirks and original character. Plowright is the first of a family of related fonts, and is also part of our soon to be released Wild West Fonts package.

PONTIFICA Pontifica is a new font designed by Michael Scarpitti. It is based on 'protogothic' calligraphy, a style developed at the monestery of St. Gall in the 12th century to replace Carolingian minuscule with a more efficient and compact system of lettering. Ultimately it became the progenitor of the gothic lettering styles of the late Medieval period. Also available to go with this font is a special swash version with a very different style, but compatible overall appearance.

SUCHOW Suchow was developed from a hand lettered storybook title by Willy Pogany. It's designed to give the feel of the far east, with character shapes reminiscent of oriental brush lettering. The look of the characters is typical of lettering often used around the turn of the century for oriental themed advertising and decoration, but not seen very often in contemporary use. SUMMERISLE Summerisle was developed from a small sample of hand-lettered characters in one of the two theatrical posters for the cult movie The Wicker Man. The style combines elements of Celtic and Art Nouveau design with a bit of the feel of the late sixties paganistic theme of the movie. We've expanded it to a full character set while preserving the unique look. The name for the font comes from the name of Christopher Lee's pivotal character in the movie.

TAROT Marseille Tarot is based on a famous 16th century Italian Tarot deck. This shareware version includes the first 11 cards of the Major Arcana. VAFTHRUDNIR Vafthrudnir is a new, original font design which draws on the tradition of Germanic uncial and early gothic calligraphy. It is designed to be extra bold and somewhat rough-hewn, for use in title design, and features variant versions of many of the characters. Vafthrudnir is one of four new fonts in our just released Viking fonts collection.

VERGENNES TVergennes is a set of a set of ornate, calligrphic decorative initials based on 19th century metal type. WANAX Wanax is an original calligraphic font by Dave Nalle. It is a unique, freehand style, where each character is drawn in a single stroke without ever lifting the pen from the page. This gives it an unusual convoluted look rather reminiscent of an arcane or secret language. It also features a number of variant character forms.

WITTENBACH Wittenbach is based on lettering by Rudolf Koch which really embodies the essence of classic gothic-style poster lettering of the 1920s. It brings together the traditional style of gothic lettering and a strong, more modern sensibility characteristic of Koch's work and his era. It's very vertical and stylized, but also extraordinarily attractive without the harshness of many of the designs of that period.

WOLFRAM Wolfram is a bold display font based on an Art Nouveau type design from Germany. It features very thick letter forms with gnarled edges simulating antique printing, though the letter forms are stylish and rather modern looking. It's a striking font - excellent for buttons and other places you want to provide some strong emphasis.

ZOTHIQUE Zothique is an unusual rough-hand calligraphic script with decorative curls and lots of variant characters. It is based on hand lettering from a map of Clark Ashton Smith's fantasy world of the same name which Dave Nalle did many years ago.
