January was an active month for the Manor Lions Club. Early in the month the club hosted its bi-monthly fish fry with almost 300 local residents turning out for catfish, hush puppies, fries and more. The next fish fry is scheduled for March 6th. At the Club’s bimonthly meeting on Monday, Jan 26 there were twenty-five members in attendance. New member Alex Montes-Vela was introduced and welcomed. Guest speaker Attorney Ronald G. Greening gave a brief overview of Wills, Trusts and Estate Planning, answering questions after his talk. A delicious homemade meal was prepared by the Calhoun family. Lion Katie Burrell won the bingo game. Over the holidays the Manor Lions Club made contributions to the East Rural Community Center in the sum of $100, to the Make A Wish Foundation for $200.00 and pitched in with Rubert Cedar Auctioneers to support the MHS Ag Boosters buyers group for $750. In February Manor Lion and Past District Governor Gil Burrell will be traveling with a group of area Lions to the town of Sabinus in the interior of Mexico to spend a week giving eye examinations and providing free glasses to the residents of the area. Lions Club meetings are held the second and fourth Monday of the month at 7PM at Lions Hall 105 East Eggleston St in downtown Manor. The next meeting will be February 9 at 7PM. If you’re coming to ManorFest, we’re easy to find. From Austin drive East on Highway 290 for about 9 miles. You’ll cross over the recently completed Highway 130 and then pass through a light at Parmer Lane. The next light is in downtown Manor. Take a right there and follow Mueller until it turns into Lexington. You’ll see the park on the left and if you keep going 3 more blocks you’ll see the Lions Club on the left. The festival runs for four blocks from the Lions Club to the Park on Burnet St, which is one block East of Lexington. If you’re coming from the East, you’ll approach Manor on Highway 290. You’ll come to a light at FM973. Take a left at the next light after that, which is in downtown Manor. From there follow the directions above. The Parade route will be along Lexington from the railroad tracks to Mueller and it takes off at 10am. The Barbeque events are at the Lions Club. Kids games are at the Park. The Craft Fair is on Burnety between the Lions Club and the Park. We’ve done up some maps of the downtown area of Manor and the specific area where the ManorFest activities are taking place. CLICK HERE to see a map of downtown Manor. CLICK HERE to see a detailed map of the area where the fest is including numbered locations for craft fair booths. If you’re a vendor and did not get your booth number either by email or by phone, please call me at 512-656-8011 and I’ll give it to you, or you can get directions to your booth on Saturday. It’s not strictly a baked good, but in response to popular demand we’ve added Salsa as a sixth category for our bake-off. If you want to enter your salsa, bring it and turn it in by 10am Sunday at the Lions Club along with the regular baked goods. We’ll announce winners around 3pm. With ManorFest less than a month away preparations are going pretty well. We’ve updated a couple of the forms. If you haven’t sent in your Craft Fair application, BBQ entry or gotten your BakeOff forms, new versions are available. We’ve also extended the deadline for early registration for BBQ and Craft Fair applications until the 15th of September. After that you can still register, but the price will be slightly higher. If you’ve already sent in your forms we’ll be sending out confirmations two weeks before the fest. The fest is the first weekend in October (the 3rd and 4th). It should be a little cooler and is going to have a lot fewer scheduling conflicts - no ACL Fest and no Pecan Street Festival. For those who want to get a head start, here are the forms (updated 2008 versions). We’ll be doing mailings about the fest as well, if you prefer to wait. I’ve put the various forms associated with Manor Lions Fest events online so that you can download them and print them out. They are in PDF format which should open and print from just about any browser. Here they are: General Information Flyer Any of these forms can be returned to us with the appropriate fees prior to the indicated deadlines. Just send them to Dave Nalle, 7609 Nez Perce Tr., Manor, TX 78653 Send any questions through email. Or call 512-276-7352. I look forward to seeing you at ManorFest.
