It’s Turkey Shoot Season!
Posted on 10.03.09 by Administrator @ 11:09 am

It’s fall and that means it’s time for our seasonal series of Turkey Shoots. We hold them every Sunday from the beginning of October until the end of November, starting at 2pm and usually lasting for 20-25 rounds which takes about 2 to 2 and a half hours. Our location remains the traditional prime spot at the corner of Hwy 290 and FM212 right at the stoplight on the edge of downtown Manor.

We plan to continue to shoot 15 targets a round for at least 25 rounds a day and hopefully more, but with any luck we’ll be adding some special events as well, so watch this space for news on what we’ve got planned. Rounds are going to be $3 each, but we may also shoot some bonus rounds for bigger prizes for $5 each.

The specific dates for the shoots are: October 4, 11, 18 and 25 and November 1, 8, 15, 22, 29.

Hope to see you all there.

ManorFest Arts and Crafts Vendor Information
Posted on 10.02.09 by Administrator @ 12:20 pm

After much struggle to prepare for potential weather problems we’ve got the plan worked out for the Arts and Crafts fair section of the festival. Here is a list of vendors with their booth numbers. The list is not final because some vendors haven’t gotten us all of their information yet, but most vendors should be on the list. Once you’ve found your number you can see a specific map of booth locations by clicking here and that should tell you where you are.

Vendor - Theme - Booth#
Monica Liles/Make-A-Wish - Cake Walk - 1
Thomas Adams - Air Brush Tattoos - 2
Robert Franz - Jewelry - 4
Kala Uprely - Salsa - 6
Rachel Aleman - Jewelry - 8
Irene Castillo-Alonzo - Food - 10
Liz Hartley - 11
Shannon Ware - Information - 12
Laureane Boehme - Crafts - 15
Gail Wilhelm - Church Auction - 14
Linda George - 15
Audra Lockwood - Jewelry - 16
Mike Walterscheidt - Insurance - 18
Laura-Ann Castleberry - 19
Linda Moss - Craft Items - 20
Grace Horton - Clothing - 22
Rusty Roofe - Tie-Dye - 24
Dick Peterson - Rain Barrels - 26
Karen Griffin - 4H Fish Pond - 28
Cat Rescue - 30/E
Kim Strong - Raffle Tcikets - 32/C
Manor Methodist - 34/A
Bertha Paz - 37

Be prepared that because of the large number of last-minute booth registrations there may be some impromptu rearrangements, but we’ll try to stick by this list as much as possible. The city has also made it difficult for us to mark the booths clearly on the street, so locations may be somewhat approximate. Make sure to check your location with a member of our staff on site before setting up. We will be there starting at 8am.

ManorFest Maps, Directions and News
Posted on 10.02.09 by Administrator @ 10:01 am

About the Weather

There’s been some talk of the possibility of rain this ManorFest weekend. We’ve never been rained out before, but we have made some contingency plans. If the rain is light, we’ll carry on anyway. If the rain gets heavier the BBQ Cook-Off and live music will continue at the Lions Club, but the Arts and Crafts fair and kids games parts of the festival may have to be moved or rescheduled. We are planning a larger Arts and Crafts event for early next year and may move vendors to that date and expand the event.

Finding the Fest

If you’re coming to ManorFest, we’re easy to find.

From Austin drive East on Highway 290 for about 9 miles. You’ll cross over the recently completed Highway 130 and then pass through a light at Parmer Lane. The next light is in downtown Manor. Take a right there and follow Mueller until it turns into Lexington. You’ll see the park on the left and if you keep going 3 more blocks you’ll see the Lions Club on the left. The festival runs for four blocks from the Lions Club to the Park on Burnet St, which is one block East of Lexington.

If you’re coming from the East, you’ll approach Manor on Highway 290. You’ll come to a light at FM973. Take a left at the next light after that, which is in downtown Manor. From there follow the directions above.

The Parade route will be along Lexington from the railroad tracks to Mueller and it takes off at 10am. The Barbeque events are at the Lions Club. Kids games are at the Park. The Craft Fair is on N. Burney St. between the Lions Club and the Park.

We’ve done up some maps of the downtown area of Manor and the specific area where the ManorFest activities are taking place. CLICK HERE to see a map of downtown Manor. CLICK HERE to see a detailed map of the area where the fest is including numbered locations for craft fair booths.

If you’re a vendor and did not get your booth number either by email or by phone, please call me at 512-656-8011 and I’ll give it to you, or you can get directions to your booth on Saturday.

Fish Fry Report
Posted on 03.12.09 by Administrator @ 1:01 pm

The March 6th Fish Fry was a big success. In addition to the usual local diners we had about 40 guests from other Lions Clubs who were attending the Lions leadership training conference in Austin. They came from all over Central Texas and made a special trip out to Manor to enjoy catfish, hugh puppies, fries, beans and slaw to fortify themselves for some hard training the next morning.

This Fish Fry also featured live music from local musicians, which added to the harmonious atmosphere. We’re having a special bonus Fish Fry on April 3rd and we hope to have music then as well. Everyone is welcome to come and dine for just $7.50.

January Roundup
Posted on 02.02.09 by Administrator @ 1:11 am

January was an active month for the Manor Lions Club.

Early in the month the club hosted its bi-monthly fish fry with almost 300 local residents turning out for catfish, hush puppies, fries and more. The next fish fry is scheduled for March 6th.

At the Club’s bimonthly meeting on Monday, Jan 26 there were twenty-five members in attendance. New member Alex Montes-Vela was introduced and welcomed. Guest speaker Attorney Ronald G. Greening gave a brief overview of Wills, Trusts and Estate Planning, answering questions after his talk. A delicious homemade meal was prepared by the Calhoun family. Lion Katie Burrell won the bingo game.

Over the holidays the Manor Lions Club made contributions to the East Rural Community Center in the sum of $100, to the Make A Wish Foundation for $200.00 and pitched in with Rubert Cedar Auctioneers to support the MHS Ag Boosters buyers group for $750.

In February Manor Lion and Past District Governor Gil Burrell will be traveling with a group of area Lions to the town of Sabinus in the interior of Mexico to spend a week giving eye examinations and providing free glasses to the residents of the area.

Lions Club meetings are held the second and fourth Monday of the month at 7PM at Lions Hall 105 East Eggleston St in downtown Manor. The next meeting will be February 9 at 7PM.
