Walter Crane’s “The Three Sirens”

cranehandscriptmfWe’ve been working for a while on putting together a package based on The Three Sirens, a classic illustrated poem written, lettered and illuminated by legendary arts and crafts master Walter Crane. Not only did Crane hand letter and illustrate every page of his poem but he also printed and bound it in a very limited edition himself.

sireninitialsmfThis is one of the rarest Walter Crane works and we went to considerable lengths to assure that you can duplicate the unique look of his work, with two original fonts derived from the lettering in the book, detailed images and a convenient PDF guide for reference.

The Walter Crane Handscript Font (sample above and to the right) is based on Walter Crane’s lettering of the poem. The new Siren Initials font (shown to the left) is based on the decorative initials in the book (note that it is not a complete alphabet, just 30 initials with multiples of some letters). Together they let you recreate Crane’s unusual design style.
