Abdiel Font

Abdiel originated in 2005 as a custom design for a company logo. All they wanted was a few of the letters done in a flourished Renaissance style, but we decided to expand the effort for our own purposes to create a complete font with an expanded character set and lots of flourishes, taking humanist style lettering to a bit of an extreme with ascending and descending flourishes and some interesting alternate character forms as well. The result is very attractive and excellent for decorative uses where calligraphy might be called for, but the letters are still readable and fairly traditional in appearance. The basic letter forms are mostly traditional humanist cursive with a few variations, but the flourishes are pure fantasy, though not as extreme as some of the styles of the late Renaissance as found in fonts like Trinculo, Platthand or John Speed.
