Rebuke from Miller Farms

posted by Sibyl West

Have you trashed your AARP cards yet? That the following letter was sent to Mr. Rand who is the Executive Director of AARP has been authenticated by Snopes .

The emotion you detect here is not anger, for anger is what we feel when we go after something and fail. This is rage. This is the raw emotion that follows a violation which one was powerless to avert because of  trust. It is an articulation of realization of a pernicious betrayal. There is a great difference. Let Cyndy Miller demonstrate that to you.

Dear Mr. Rand,

Recently you sent us a letter encouraging us to renew our lapsed membership in AARP by the requested date. I know it is not what you were looking for, but this is the most honest response I can give you. Our gap in coverage is merely a microscopic symptom of the real problem, a deepening lack of faith.

While we have proudly maintained our membership for several years and have long admired the AARP goals and principles, regrettably, we can no longer endorse it’s abdication of our values. Your letter specifically stated that we can count on AARP to speak up for our rights, yet the voice we hear is not ours. Your offer of being kept up to date on important issues through DIVIDED WE FAIL presents neither an impartial view nor the one we have come to embrace. We do believe that when two parties agree all the time on everything presented to them, one is probably not necessary. But, when the opinions and long term goals are diametrically opposed, the divorce is imminent. This is the philosophy which spawned our 200 years of government.

Once upon a time, we looked forward to being part of the senior demographic. We also looked to AARP to provide certain benefits and give our voice a power we could not possibly hope to achieve on our own. AARP gave us a sense of belonging which we no longer enjoy. The Socialist politics practiced by the Obama administration and empowered by AARP serves only to raise the blood pressure my medical insurance strives to contain. Clearly a conflict of interest there!

We do not understand the AARP posture, feel greatly betrayed by the guiding forces that we expected to map out our senior years and leave your ranks with a great sense of regret. We mitigate that disappointment with the relief of knowing that we are not contributing to the problem anymore by renewing our membership. There are numerous other organizations which offer discounts without threatening our way of life or offending our sensibilities.

This Presidential Administration scares the living daylights out of us.. Not just for ourselves, but for our proud and bloodstained heritage. But even more importantly for our children and grandchildren. Washington  has rendered Soylent Green a prophetic cautionary tale rather than a nonfiction scare tactic. I have never in my life endorsed any militant or radical groups, yet now I find myself listening to them. I don’t have to agree with them to appreciate the fear which birthed their existence. Their borderline insanity presents little more than a balance to the voice of the Socialist mindset in power. Perhaps I became American by a great stroke of luck in some cosmic uterine lottery, but in my adulthood I CHOOSE to embrace it and nurture the freedoms it represents as well as the responsibilities it requires..

Your website generously offers us the opportunity to receive all communication in Spanish. ARE YOU KIDDING??? Someone has broken into our ‘house’, invaded our home without our invitation or consent. The President has insisted we keep the perpetrator in comfort and learn the perp language so we can communicate our reluctant welcome to them.

I DON’T choose to welcome them.

I DON’T choose to support them.

I DON’T choose to educate them.

I DON’T choose to medicate them, pay for their food or clothing.

American home invaders get arrested. Please explain to me why foreign lawbreakers can enjoy privileges on American soil that Americans do not get?

Why do some immigrants have to play the game to be welcomed and others only have to break & enter to be welcomed?

We travel for a living. Walt hauls horses all over this great country, averaging over 10,000 miles a month when he is out there. He meets more people than a politician on caffeine overdose. Of all the many good folks he enjoyed on this last 10,000 miles, this trip yielded only ONE supporter of the current administration. One of us is out of touch with mainstream  America . Since our poll is conducted without funding, I have more faith in it than one which is power driven.

We have decided to forward this to everyone on our mailing list, and will encourage them to do the same. With several hundred in my address book, I have every faith that the eventual exponential factor will make a credible statement to you.

I am disappointed as hell.

I am scared as hell.

I am MAD as hell, and I’m NOT gonna take it anymore!

Walt & Cyndy,

Walt and Cyndy sound like what I remember as true blue American patriots. I didn’t know there were any left. God Bless them

In this letter, this couple insult my heritage, and calls me a perp.
I chose not to move their opinions forward.
I agree that AARP is a joke, like every other institution in this horrendously corrupted government, but the swiveling to attacking immigrants (legal or not) is callous and low.

If we look real close, the Millers are also invaders (since they are not Native-Americans). As far as I know, there were no Millers in America when Sacagawea, Crazy Horse, and their peoples were already roaming this beautiful continent, that immigrants and invaders like the Smiths, the Clarks, the Aldens and the Browns decimated the real owners of this continent and perpetrated genocide against them… And maybe Cindy Miller has a very good command of English, but I bet you anything that she cannot speak a lick of any other languages.

She is not a true blue American: she is a pro-Nazi and racist person. If this country were to be populated only by the so-called true-blue Americans, there will be none left but the American Indians! And Cindy will have to haul ass to wherever her ancestors came from!

The Millers seem to have plenty of money hauling horses, they can travel 10,000 per month! which is very lucrative and exclusive in America, but they forgot who cleans their stables, who picks the tomatoes they eat, and who keeps this country running while many American-born bastards sell drugs to children, deal in arms with terrorists, and other American-born dimwits simply live posh on welfare with the money that ME AND OTHER IMMIGRANTS PAY IN TAXES.

So, God Bless America, built on the sweat and blood of slaves and immigrants!

      • GEORGE

I think you need to reread the letter and not try to feel your heritage is being stomped on, but remember what America was originally created about and for.
The immigrants who wish to come here legally, through the proper steps, without asking for anything but to become an American citizen and to have the opportunity to thrive as a free citizen, using whatever their personal ability to do so are always welcome.
I, like the Millers, came from somewhere else, via the immigration process, being on the first census of Texas, so I know what immigration is all about having lived on the border most of my life.
Their intent was to point out what most of us are tired of, whether it be Russian, Hispanic, or Asian decent, this is America created by the sweat of many cultures, and the time has come to remember what made us great and not what is taking us down.
Move on from being resentful and pay attention to the happenings of this once proud country…I apologize for nothing this country stands for and hopefully more ‘Millers’ keep arising.

NeNeT… all I can say to you is PIFFLE. You sound like a jealous old woman… jealous of the Millers who have worked hard and are successful. People like you want the successful to apologize for their industriousness. Sorry, gal, you’ll get no apologies, here. Did you even read Cyndy’s letter, you whining dope?? The AARP is nothing more than a bunch of thieves who take their members’ money and give it away to liberals like you. What’s the matter, your welfare check late?

The NRA has just as many perks as AARP, rental car discounts, hotels and motels, you name it plus they teach children how to handle guns responsibly and safely. You probably hide under your bed at the sound of our mighty Air Force passing over on Memorial Day. What is your heritage, anyway? Chicken? I’m a Texan born of Texans. I’m Caucasian and so are they. My father picked cotton as a youngster under the broiling Texas sun and was glad to get the work because they were poor. You, NeNeT are just poor white trash.

BOO HOO … TO THE writer spouting off about how the letter insulting his heritage …. that’s usually the feeling of all illegal immigrants… that letter is not condeming legal immigrants … who gives a rat’s ass if anyone can speak more than one language. My parents came from Europe in the late 1800′s, worked like slaves , without being considered one, just for the survival of family and country… with God as their co-pilot. You are self pitiful and focused on greed.

52 yoa and counting. 29 years in Law Enforcement and still going. I know BS when I hear it. Obama was BS from his first untrained lack of leadership words. My parents were on AARP until their deaths in 2000 and 2007. I’ll find someone else. AARP is NOT the only one. IF this letter and statement is true, they are turncoats and nutless wonders who chose to follow instead of lead. Any one of us can choose to take the easy way. I takes special people in special organizations to lead the way…

This same letter came to me in an email. I totally agree with this letter!! I’m also a senior, and made the mistake of paying for years in advance. I will still notify AARP that I’m resigning my membership. There are now other senior organizations springing up now. I will be looking into them for membership.

  6. Julia Wood

I have been dismayed for some time about AARP’s attitude that seniors, and only seniors, should be rewarded funds by the Fed’s. What about the next generation? Do they not count now? My ‘next generation’ means everything to me, and I don’t need more funds for the local ‘senior center’ to be rude to anyone who walks in their holy door!

Always good to meet another proud member of the “Van Winkle” clan– We/The United States of America suffer from the same top ten problems that we faced when I graduated from High School in May1970!!!! Sounds like they forgot about the 58,000 American lives that were wasted in Viet Nam, and about the oil embargo of the 70’s and about the Japanese invasion of Detroit in the 70’s and 9/11 (while Bubba and Dick were enjoying their circle jerk with their butt buddies), and the @ 8 years of war in Afgan & Iraq and the economic meltdown (Bubba & Dick of course), and the aftermath of Katrina—The greatest country in the world-we can move anything-anywhere-anytime and we embarrassed ourselves to the world (we know who—B&D)!!!! Did I forget something!!!!

How dare President Obama not be able to fix the 50 year plus mess in his 1.5 years- especially given all of the fantastic help he is getting!!

I read the reply to AARP and I too lived in Texas for almost 15 years. The same people who compoain about illegal immigrants use them daily on their farms since no one else will work for lows wages and a hut, plus no benefits and to add insult to injury, make the farm owners wealthy in the meantime. How dare anyone want to ship those illegals back!!!!! Their eply to AARP is laughable.

Having farmed in Mexico through the mid 60′s to the early 80′s, I can tell you that compared to Mexico, living in a shack while working in the fields all day is a far cry from where most of these came from.
Not saying what we paid was a just payment for their hard work, but back then we actually ‘overpaid’ what the common land owner who hired their own people to harvest their crops did.
We paid $.80 a day for a field hand, and $1.20 a day for a tractor driver. Sound insane? They got paid less than that elsewhere and were happy to work for us and not their own native land owners. Now this was the late 60′s remember, so I would hope they pay more now. So why would you think it was bad for them to come and work under conditions you might not like or pay you might not take?
We provided sheds to sleep under, firewood for their fires, and employed during season almost 1,000 people at a time.
We were a bit off the highway, so we even provided a small general store of sorts at no pprofit to us so they could have basic needs, and would deduct that from their weekly pay by letting them charge whatever they needed.
Some came alone, some with families. Some picked only enough to pay for that days food, etc. Others, with their kids in tow, worked the whole season to save money and move to the next crop.
So…don’t point the finger at the wealthy landowners here, but back at Mexico for allowing thwe conditions to be worse than here and for their own landowners to pay such dismal prices.
You know why you would see guys with small blades cutting the grass along the highways…?…becuase using a tractor would take away a job. Same reason why they still handpicked cotton in Mexico in those days instead of using a combine.

  8. It’s nice to know that other people are of the same mind set that I am, not only me, but ALL of our older friends who have trashed the AARP cards as we have. Am sending the letter along to all my e mail .

  9. Nelson LeMay

Great letter; but you already know that.
I’m curious as to what sort of response (if any) from Mr. Rand has been made.

  10. Clark Bufkin

Regarding AARP’s fall from grace: AARP has not fallen from grace. They continue to stand for the American ideals of our fore parents and they keep current with today’s issues for our elders. I have been a member of AARP since I turned 50 and I have supported them long before that. I will continue to be an active and paying member and I plan to do so in the future. I encourage others to do the same.

Regarding a call for no gun Control laws: I support gun control. We have too many guns in America and our murder rate when compared with other industrialized nations is obscene. Here are some comparisons of the most murderous countries in the world and their as well as our ranking among other nations: ¹

    #24 United States: 0.043 per 1,000 people
    #40 France: 0.017 per 1,000 people
    #44 Canada: 0.015 per 1,000 people
    #46 United Kingdom: 0.014 per 1,000 people
    #51 Netherlands: 0.011 per 1,000 people
    #58 Greece: 0.008 per 1,000 people
    #60 Japan: 0.005 per 1,000 people

Regarding the statement “Socialist politics are practiced by the Obama administration”: Our present administration is not anymore socialist than any previous administration. “Socialist” is a SCARE word, plain and simple. The right wing of the Republican Party and the people who call themselves members of the “Tea Bag” party are using scare words like “Socialism”, Communism” and “Illegal’s”. Our present administration is taking ideas that have been proven good practices by other nations. In my opinion that is a good thing. Something had to been done with our healthcare system. It is a failure with a capital “F”. This new law is just a start. Every President since FDR has tried to implement a new healthcare system for our citizens, including Republican administrations. It was under Bush’s administration that the prescription piece of Medicare came to be law. Called Part D, it was added to our Medicare system. The Part D program costs the most of any other program of Medicare since it was signed into existence under Lyndon Johnson’s administration. Why weren’t these voices crying about the Socialism in Bush’s Administration??? Were mistakes made with the latest healthcare law, of course there was. In my opinion it should have been called “Medicare for Everyone”. Simple, no new scare words and it is what we really need to do.

It always amazes me that so many of the people who claim to be anti-socialism are using the most socialistic parts of our government system and yet they yell: “No socialism” but they are the very ones who are drawing Social Security, Social Security Supplementary Income, Disability, Medicare or Medi-cal, and “god forbid” anyone takes those “socialistic” parts of our government away from them. But somehow in their mind, “That’s different”. If we had no socialistic-like programs in our welfare system, then none of these programs would exist.
Regarding the militant groups that some think should be endorsed for fighting our duly elected government are very frightening to me. Think Timothy McVey, Terry Nichols; and they are very frightening indeed. They blew people up, including babies, mothers, pregnant women as well as other innocent people into millions of pieces that fateful day. And they did it “In the Name of Justice, Jesus and against the evils of our government. These men were not Muslims, they were not even Islamic. These men were “god-fearing christians! (Lower case used on purpose, by me) These heinous acts could easily give those foreign governments and world-wide subversive groups that hope for our demise a good “foot-in-the-door” entry to our down-fall.
AARP’s website generously offers us the opportunity to receive all communication in Spanish. I wish they offered other language translations as well. Did you know we have no official language as a nation? There is no law in America stating we have a national language. That means no one has to speak the same language. And thank goodness we don’t! Isn’t it great that not only are we the “melting pot” of the world, but also a melting pot of languages of the world, How boring our world would be if we were all that same. The same color, the same language, the same beliefs as well. I think that to start to require sameness would sound like a dictatorship to me, not a republic that we are. I love the diversity of our great nation. We need more quilt pieces to be really great. To use another language, “Vive la différence”!
People are yelling “arrest the illegal immigrants! Throw them out!” In my opinion these people are not really talking about illegal immigrants, they are talking about people of Hispanic descent. It is out and out racism! If not, where is the cry to arrest the illegal Canadians, the illegal Europeans, and the illegal Australians? This new law in Arizona is encouraging racial profiling, plain and simple. A bad law! Do you want to pulled over and arrested for “looking white and illegal”?
These immigrants from south of our border are not taking jobs from Americans. They are doing the jobs that Americans won’t do. If we got all of the illegal immigrants from south of our border out of the country today, who would clean our pools, clean our houses, pick our fruits and vegetables, or flip our burgers?
Then one author says that in his last 10,000 mile trip, there was only ONE supporter of the current administration. I think that is simply not possible unless he “filtered” to whom he asked the question. If there was one supporter out of 10,000, our present administration would not have been elected by the high numbers that won it the election. Have there been disappointments? Of course there have been. Are we better off now than we were eight years ago? You’re Darn Right we are! Even if the current polls are accurate, one of 10,000 would not be accurate. And based on current polls, Obama’s numbers are still higher than Bush’s were.
If you think things couldn’t possibly get any worse than they are now, then heaven forbid, elect the minority party to power and you’ll see. Clinton, a Democrat, left office with one of the highest surpluses in our nation’s history. Bush, a Republican, left office with the highest deficits in our nation’s history. And in eight short years, Bush not only gave us the highest deficit in our nation’s history, a distinct opposite of what Clinton had done, but he also gave us wars on two fronts and the deepest recession since the Great Depression of the thirties. And don’t tell me the downing of the World Trade Center forced us into war with Iraq. That argument simply doesn’t hold water and you all know it.
Please, do not left let history repeat itself.

    • Larry Hale

I can’t believe what you have stated ! I do not think you know anything about who actually started this. If you will go back & study as to who did, it might surprise you. I completely stand by the letter to the AARP. I am another one that they have lost !

    • Maren Sandall

      Mr. Bufkin,
With all due respect, OUR YOU KIDDING ME! You need to get your head out of the sand and look at what this President and his administration is doing to our country. It’s two steps short of treason in my opinion.

    • Susan B.

Hear, Hear!!! Thank you for this post! You said everything I have felt but have been unable to express because of my lack of writing talent. The original e-mail that was sent to AARP was forwarded to me by a supporter of Ms. Miller. In hopes, I think, that I would “change my ways” and I would agree with it. FAT CHANCE!! I would like to reply with what you wrote (if you don’t mind my using your words).

    • mel

yaada yaada yaada what a crock of BS. clinton was a do nothing except discrace the presidency I can see why the democrats are followers. no one left to lead except standing in line for their food stamps and free medical and free housing

  11. Cathleen

    Clark, fantastic post. Thank you.

  12. Steve

BRAVO, CLARK!! What? No snappy comeback from the uninformed, entitlement grabbing, racist, bigots who claim to be true blue Americans? The people to fear are those who write letters like Miller’s and those that fawn over it and pass it on. What’s the matter? Are you still that insecure and such a closet racist that you still can’t get over a Harvard professor who happens to be black is our President? The Dick Cheney presidency did one heck of a job screwing America, it’s allies, the Constitution, the economy, our freedoms and rights, and all working class…except fat corporate America. Amazing how soon you forget. I’ll stick with an educated, well spoken, highly intelligent President over a bubba with gentleman C’s from daddy’s alma matter who cheated his way into the White House. How soon you forget that Gore had the majority vote. We would have never gone to war with Iraq and we would have never been attacked on 9/11 if Gore were President. But of course, you probably don’t believe in global warming either. So let the blissfully ignorant eat cake while Rome burns (mixing historical metaphors on purpose). You see us as weak; and the weak shall inherit the Earth because we think before we act. That’s not weak, that’s educated. It must suck to be ignorant; but you don’t even know that you are.

  13. C. Smith

Here Here for Cindy Miller! Her every word mirros my own thoughts and her correspondence is so articulately written. $4.8 BILLION dollars PER DAY going to the national debt, it’s unsustainable. Cannot wait to vote in November. Wish the current administration could be impeached.

  14. Mr Bufkin, it’s a shame your parents didn’t know about birth control
