Fooks Grotesque is based on a hand lettered alphabet by Edwin Fooks from his book Plain and Ornamental Lettering (1932). It marks an important milestone in lettering design between Art Nouveau and Art Deco and is a significant style which influenced lettering design through the 1960s. Fooks was an influential though little known mid-century designer who worked with Eric Gill and others. Fooks Grotesque was designed as a lettering style to fill with patterns for specialized uses. Fooks called it a Grotesque font because of the exaggerated letter forms. It immediately brings to mind psychedelic-era sign lettering that would be perfect for a mod clothing boutique or thrift store. You can try the DEMO version of Fooks Grotesque for free. The demo version has a limited version of the character set which mixes regular characters and outline version of the characters. You can ORDER the full version for only $24..
